The success of a barefoot horse has a lot to do with the owners understanding and participation in supporting their horse.  A healthy hoof, barefoot or shod, relies on three things:  â€‹â€‹

  • The Trim

  • The horses movement (and living conditions)

  • The horses diet and lifestyle

In Christa's Natural Hoof-Care for Horse-Owners - Course 1, Christa offers students the opportunity to advance their knowledge of the equine hoof as well as how to properly assess it for health and soundness.  This course designed to provide the basic foundational principles of hoof care, including:

  • Anatomy of the Equine Hoof

  • Physiology and Biomechanics of the Equine Hoof

  • Techniques for Assessing the Internal Balance (Boney Column Placement)

  • Techniques for Assessing the Internal Structures (Soft Tissue Health and Development)

  • Introduction to Functional Language (Learn to understand and speak "farrier talk")

  • Common Problems and Pathologies:  How to recognize them and what they mean

  • Influential Factors: What can be done to improve your horses overall hoof health

When you sign up for this Course 1 you will receive a list of Mandatory Educational Material that you will need to purchase to support your learning.  Christa will then provide you with *lessons and assignments which are designed to guide your learning and provide you with feedback as you learn and prepare you for the next stage.  Upon completion of Course 1 you will be prepared to advance to Course 2 - Foundational Principles of Trimming Your Own Horse should you choose to continue your learning.

Course 2 - Foundational Principles of Timming Your Own Horse is a hands on, in person learning experience guided by Christa Miremadi.  This is for those who have completed Course 1 and are interested in taking their learning to the next level and who want to become either their own horses hoof care provider or simply learn the skills in order to support their current hoof care provider and their horse better.

Even if you don't plan to become your horses main hoof care provider, it is a huge relief to know that you CAN look after their hoof care if you need to and to have the knowledge needed to work with your vet/farrier in a more involved way.  It will help you to understand your horse's and your farrier's needs better as well as how to recognize and address problems before they get out of hand.  Course 2 is a series of 2 hour lessons that cover:

  • Natural Hoof Care Tools and how to use them

  • Basic Natural Balance Trim (including frog, wall and sole maintenance)

  • The Difference Between Trimming Fronts and Hinds

  • Trimming to Promote Correct Movement

  • Correctly Addressing Common Problems

  • When to Involve a Vet

  • Guided Support
